30 January 2014, Abuja – The new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Mr. Mack Kast, has charged the company’s management team to work together to meet the expectation of Nigerians in ensuring efficient delivery of its mandate of wheeling generated power to distribution companies nationwide.
Addressing the members of the top management team of the TCN at a recent two–day management retreat held in Abuja, with the theme “Working Together for a Brighter Future,” Kast said power supply was the engine that would drive a nation, adding that it is extremely fundamental, hence the urgent need to develop synergies that would enable the company to accomplish its role in the power supply value chain.
The retreat focused on the need to create synergies, expand motivation, build trust and exude confidence towards accomplishing better results in TCN service delivery.
According to Krast, the TCN workers are critical in the power sector and the management team has the requisite talent and potential within each of them to lead the rest of the workers to accomplish set goals and objectives and make a difference in the power sector.
He noted that presently, much of the company’s infrastructure was in need of upgrades and pointed out that “the future is bright, if we recognise our shortcomings and move forward by diligently working together with what we have to deliver on the President’s dream for the power sector.”
Earlier in his welcome address, the Deputy Managing Director of TCN, Mr. Abubakar Atiku said the retreat was a forum for management to review the past performance of the company and plan for the year ahead.
Atiku said this would enable the company’s management team to have a clear understanding of the strategic plan for 2014 and “build an effective team, discuss challenges facing departments and chart a roadmap for the company as well as identify and agree on key performance indicators.”
The retreat featured workshops, presentations, questions and answer sessions as well as priority setting and planning sessions.
At the end of the retreat, vital decisions were taken and important resolutions that would positively impact the operations of the company adopted.
Both the managing director of TCN and his deputy urged the participants to quickly begin to put all they had learnt at the retreat into practice and share ideas with their subordinates, so that everyone would be well-informed.
Speaking on the sidelines of the of the management retreat, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Successor Nigeria Ltd., Dr. Steve Ogidan lauded the management team of TCN for the giant strides in electricity transmission business in Nigeria.
He noted that the Manitoba Hydro International and the counterpart team had the ability to provide the country the best management in electricity sector if the team worked together and focused on best practices worldwide.
