The work covering about 60,000 square kilometres, including producing trends such as the Perdido foldbelt and Bay of Campeche, will be carried out in conjunction with the 186,000-kilometre Gigante 2D seismic survey that is currently being performed by TGS off Mexico.
Sub-contractor Fugro will use vessels equipped with multibeam sonar equipment for the latest survey, which aims to identify possible oil and gas seeps for sediment sampling.
The survey, backed by industry funding, is set to kick off in the third quarter and be completed late next year.
Data will be made available to oil company clients angling for offshore acreage being offered under Mexico’s inaugural Round 1 as the North American country opens its energy sector to foreign participants.
