Udoma 27 August 2014, Sweetcrude, Port Harcourt – Total E & P Nigeria Limited, operators of Total Companies in Nigeria (comprising the Upstream and Downstream branches), says they have joined the fight for the eradication of Ebola Virus Disease in Nigeria with the donation of five brand new Ford Pick-up Vans and electronic fuelling card to the Ebola Emergency Operation Centre, Yaba, Lagos.
A statement issued by the Deputy General Manager on Policy, Media & Coordination of Total Companies in Nigeria, Mr. Charles Ogan, said ‘the donation was part of Total’s initiative to support the Federal Government’s effort at curbing the spread of Ebola in Nigeria’.
According to the statement, the Deputy Managing Director of Total E&P Nigeria Limited, Mr. Charles Ngoka, who represented the Managing Director Mrs. Elisabeth Proust, at the handover of the pick vans to theEbola Operation centre, said: “As corporate citizens of this country, the Total Companies in Nigeria have decided to be part of the efforts to fight the scourge head-on. This prompted the companies to send representations to this Centre on Saturday, August 16, 2014. The recommendations submitted necessitated the decision to do something urgently. This is why the Total Companies in Nigeria have decided to provide these vehicles as a means of mobility to this Centre. This is because of the obvious need to transport cases from wherever they are in this vast state to this Centre and back to their homes after treatment.”
The Project Director of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Prof. Abdulsalami Nasidi who receive the brand new vehicles on behalf of the Federal Government, commended Total Upstream Companies in Nigeria for the donation, said the pick-up vans will enhance their movement and speed of response to investigate suspected cases of infection before isolation.
Professor Nasidi also called on other corporate organisations to emulate Total by supporting the Ebola Emergency Operation Centre efforts to eradicate Ebola from Nigeria.
The statement also added that other top Total Management staff who witnessed the hand-over ceremony includes the Executive General Manager, Deepwater Administration of Total E&P Nigeria Ltd, Ms. Chinyere Uche, and the Corporate Affairs Manager of Total Nigeria Plc. Mr. Mabuyaku Albert.
