31 January 2014, News Wires – Strikes have forced French supermajor Total to shut down operations at an oilfield in Yemen, according to a report.
The strike action, called on Tuesday, has led to a halt in most or all of the production at Block 10 in East Shabwa, Reuters reported.
“Due to the strike, the company had no option but to unfortunately shutdown the operations to ensure the safety of all personnel and facilities,” the news wire quoted Total as saying in a statement on Thursday.
The field operator did, however, request that it be able to maintain minimal operations at the block in order to continue supply power to Hadramout, the report continued.
It is unclear if this means that some production has been maintained.
Total has been producing from Block 10 since 1997.
