07 October 2013, Kampala – Total E&P says it is waiting for UPDF clearance to resume three dimensional, 3-D, seismic surveys for oil in the northern district of Nwoya.
The move follows the recent discovery of unexploded ordinances.
“We have resumed the survey in the south of the Nile. But (in Nwoya) I believe we shall soon resume work on the northern side of the Nile,” said Ahlem Friga-Noy, Total E&P Manager for Corporate Affairs, on Friday.
Ahlem said the army was scouting the area for unexploded ordinances and would soon announce how many are still left.
“The UPDF and the demining groups have the mapping and for us we saw it as something risky to our workers and the wildlife rangers and so we had to temporarily suspend the survey,” she said.
The 3-D seismic survey more accurately determines the existence of hydrocarbons (which produce oil).
