26 March 2015, News Wires – Bangladeshis taken along with seven others from oilfield in early March release, report says
Two Bangladeshi oil workers kidnapped along with seven others from an oilfield in Libya at the start of the month have been freed, according to a report.
The workers are now in a hospital in the Libyan city of Sirte having been snatched from the al Ghani oilfield on 6 March, the BBC reported on its website.
The two men are in good health, the news outlet reported, citing Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry. It is unknown if any ransom was paid for their release.
The fate of the other seven – said to include four Filipinos and one each from Austria, Ghana and Czech Republic – is unknown.
Reports have suggested that the men may have been taken by Islamic State militants. However, this has never been confirmed.
