04 June 2016, Kampala – The board of the Uganda National Oil Company Limited (UNOC) has appointed Dr Josephine Kasalamwa Wapakhabulo as its first chief executive officer. Emmanuel Katongole, the chairman of the company, announced the appointment recently.
Wapakhabulo is a daughter to the former speaker of Parliament and Second Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister, James Wapakhabulo.
“Dr Wapakhabulo will lead the setting up of UNOC and manage its transition into a world-class oil and gas company as the country prepares for commercial oil production,” Katongole said in a circular. The appointment takes effect from August 1, 2016.
“She comes with a 15-year experience in implementing inventive solutions and achieving business solutions through effective leadership, team building and project management expertise in leading multinational companies. She has worked extensively on standards of the petroleum industry focusing on integrating life cycle data for oil and gas production facilities,” Katongole said.
He expressed hope that the new CEO, who boasts of high-level training from France and the UK, will bring energy, experience and enthusiasm to the oil company. She graduated with a PhD in Information Science from Loughborough University (United Kingdom) in 2007 at the age of 29.
