25 April 2014, News Wires – Two Aberdeen, UK-based players are joining up to offer radioactive material disposal services to the offshore industry.
Environmental management firm Scotoil Services and design and manufacturing outfit BME UK have set up joint venture Scotoil Offshore Services in the Scottish oil capital.
The new Scotoil will offer decontamination modules (DCM) to capture and contain naturally-occurring radioactive material (Norm) produced by oil and gas players.
The pair said the joint venture is being created to plus a gap in the market that has opened up as a result of changes in legislation governing the disposal of such waste.
A joint statement on Friday read: “The 20-foot DCM will include its own jetting bay, lighting, lifting equipment, ventilation and storage space for transporting all hoses, guns, spares, and PPE required to carry out the work.
“Unlike most other providers, the unit also houses a UHP water pump capable of 40,000 psi.”
