29 July 2013, News Wires – The count of rigs drilling in the US rose by six this week to 1776, according to the latest data from Houston service firm Baker Hughes.
Six oil rigs were added for a total of 1401, while gas rigs remained unchanged at 369.
There are 148 fewer rigs working than the time last year, a drop of 15 oil rigs and 136 gas rigs.
The tally of offshore rig units was up by one to 58.
The Permian basin in west Texas saw the largest change for the week, dropping by six units to 462, while the Eagle Ford in south Texas added four for a total of 237.
The Granite Wash, in the Oklahoma and Texas panhandle gained five rigs for a total of 76. Texas gained three rigs overall for a total of 848 while Oklahoma added five units to total 176.
North Dakota’s Williston basin also dropped three units for a total of 181, with the statewide figure also dropping three. The Marcellus stayed flat at 78 rigs while Utica’s count stayed flat at 36.
