27 October 2013, News Wires – The Gulf of Mexico added four rigs this week for a total of 62 units operating, while the count for land operations was down by one.
The count in the US Gulf, which has thrived lately on booming deep-water activity, is up 12 units from 48 this week last, according to the latest data released Friday by Houston-based service firm Baker Hughes.
The US land count was at 1738, 88 fewer than a year ago.
The count of gas rigs gained momentum, adding four for a total of 376, down 40 from a year ago.
The tally of oil rigs fell by four to 1357, however, down 51 units from a year ago.
The rig losses on land were spread around the country’s top-producing areas, with top producer Texas shedding five units to 812.
Oklahoma and Utah dropped by one for totals of 175 and 29 respectively.
By basin, the Granite Wash and Permian counts both fell by four to 57 and 444 respectively.
By contrast, California gained two rigs for a total of 42, while the Fayetteville, Eagle Ford, Haynesville and Utica plays each added units for totals of nine, 222, 41 and 36 respectively.
