20 April 2013, Houston – The number of rigs drilling for oil and gas in the US dropped by 13 this week to 1,758.
Houston, Texas-based service firm, Baker Hughes, said the number of rigs drilling for oil dropped by 16 to 1,371 while that for gas went up by two to 379.
It said some of the states noted as drilling hotspots saw losses during the week, with Texas’ count dropping by 11 to 837. Oklahoma also shed five rigs for a total of 180.
In New Mexico, the number of rigs dropped by two to 78 while North Dakota dropped to 176. Wyoming also shed a pair of rigs to 40, as well as Ohio, to 30 units and Alaska, to eight.
Utah added three rigs for a total of 31 and Mississippi also gained a trio for a total of 13. Colorado and California each added two for totals of 41 and 61 respectively.
In Louisiana and Pennsylvania, the rig counts saw gains of a rig for totals of 108 and 60 respectively.
