15 August 2013, Abuja – The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Dele Ezeoba on Wednesday in Abuja disclosed that the mandate given to him by President Goodluck Jonathan to stop oil theft in the Niger Delta region is being realized as criminal activities have been reduced to the barest minimum.
Ezeoba said this on Wednesday when the management team of Leadership Group Limited who paid him a courtesy call in his office.
He urged Nigerians to stop speaking ill of their country, but instead do everything within their power to protect the image of Nigeria.
Ezeoba condemned in strong terms the activities of some unpatriotic elements stealing from the commonwealth of the country and reminded them that their days were numbered unless they stopped their nefarious activities.
“The mandate of President Goodluck Jonathan to stop oil theft and to get rid of all criminal elements amidst us especially in the Niger Delta region, we are winning the war against them, and we would not rest on our oars until all of them are brought to book if they failed to stop making life difficult for common man,” Ezeoba said.
He challenged all right-thinking Nigerians to team up with him to ensure the nation’s oil was safe wherever it might be.
The Naval Chief tasked officers policing the area to sustain the war against oil theft, pipeline vandalism and other criminal activities as ordered by the president.
Earlier in his address, the Director, Editorial Business of LEADERSHIP GROUP Limited, Mr. Iyobosa Uwugiaren, said that his team was at the Navy Headquarters to seek better cooperation in both editorial and business relationships.
He said that one of the major challenges threatening the nation’s economy today was oil theft in Niger Delta and advised the Chief of Naval Staff to rise up to the challenges.
