08 August 2016, Lagos – Seven Energy has won “The Sustainability and Responsibility Award” at the 2016 African Assembly of the Oil and Gas Council held recently in London. The African Assembly is one of the most influential corporate development, strategy, finance and investment gatherings for Africa outside of Africa. The award recognises deserving organisations in the energy sector that have demonstrated impactful investments in corporate social responsibility (CSR), local content, health and safety, training and education, environmental stewardship, regulatory and ethical compliance and community engagement.
Speaking on the award, the Chief Executive Officer of Seven Energy, Mr. Phillip Ihenacho, said his company appreciated the award as recognition of its contributions to the oil and gas sector.
“We sincerely appreciate this award from the Oil and Gas Council. We are pleased that our contribution towards delivering improved standards of living to Nigerians through our commitment and investment in positive stakeholder relations is being recognised. In a demanding and cost focused business environment, we have ensured that our vision of developing and providing gas to light up Nigeria is sustainable. This award will further encourage us in the pursuit of social programs that positively impact Nigerian communities while delivering value to our stakeholders,” Ihenacho explained.
In presenting the award to Seven Energy, the oil and gas council cited a number of reasons for honoring the company with this award. In particular was Seven Energy’s Green Team Initiative, a pioneering engagement initiative serving as an example of what is possible through corporate-community partnership, which was launched in June 2015 in a bid to ensure that its gas pipelines and associated Rights of Way (ROW) are kept safe, accessible, clear and clean. Through this initiative over 200 youths across Akwa Ibom and Cross River states have been engaged.
In addition, in October 2015 Seven Energy commenced a weekly community radio programme entitled, ‘Safety and You’ across Akwa Ibom, Cross River and surrounding states. The programme was delivered by Seven Energy staff and provided guidance on a range of safety related subjects such as natural gas pipeline safety, fire safety, electrical safety, pedestrian safety, kerosene and petrol safety amongst others.
Seven Energy is currently delivering total gas volumes in excess of 100 million standard cubic feet per day (MMcfpd) to three power stations and a cement factory. As the power stations – Alaoji, Calabar and Ibom – complete their commissioning work and electricity transmission infrastructure, the Group forecasts gas deliveries in excess of 200 MMscfpd over the coming year.
This award is coming on the heels of the “Impactful Investment in Gas to Power and Industry” award conferred on Seven Energy by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
