He noted that the Fuel Plant which was commissioned in 1980 was functioning at 60 per cent capacity, “but shut down on January 15 due to unavailability of crude oil”.
The corporation stated that crude oil production in the country averaged 2.01 million barrels per day in July 2017.
It said the 2.01 million bpd crude production represented 3.15 per cent increase in contrast to what was produced in June, and was up by 21.58 per cent relative to the July 2016 performance.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the NNPC spokesman, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu, said 55 management staff were affected in the exercise.
An analysis of the corporation’s Monthly Financial and Operations report showed that the consolidated capacity utilisation of the three refineries dropped from 24.59 per cent in April 2017, to 23.09 per cent in the month under review.
On the slump in oil production, the NNPC said, “In February 2017, crude oil production in Nigeria decreased to 1.82 million bpd, which represents 1.05 per cent decrease relative to January 2017 production and also lagged behind February 2016 performance by 10.97 per cent.”

Other form of the losses due to the act of illegal tapping of the refinery raw water pipeline is that it slows down the build-up rate of water in the reserve tanks which endangers the refinery, as the plant is expected to maintain a minimum level of water requirement that is considered safe for operations, the Managing Director explained.
On the earlier plan to have other refineries co-located with the existing refineries, Kragha explained that though the plan was still on course, none of the projected co-location refineries would come on stream in 2017 based on existing timeline for assemblage of the plants.
