09 September 2014, News Wires – Det Norske Oljeselskap has again come up dry with a further wildcat drilled in the North Sea off Norway, which comes on the heels of a previous well failure for the explorer in the mature play.
The latest probe was drilled by semi-submersible Borgland Dolphin at the Kvitvola prospect in Det Norske-operated production licence 553 but also failed to deliver the goods.
It follows the recent dry well recorded by Det Norske at its Heimdalshoe prospect in the Norwegian North Sea.
The 34/7-36 S probe at Kvitvola – the first exploration well to be drilled in the licence – was targeting hydrocarbon potential in Upper Jurassic Draupne sandstones as well as in a secondary target in the underlying Brent group.
However, no reservoir was encountered in the primary target and the secondary one was dry, the Oslo-listed company said in a statement.
The well, drilled to a total vertical depth of 3639 metres in 304 metres, will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.
Det Norske operates the licence with a 40% stake with partners Svenska Petroleum and Bayerngas on 35% and 25%, respectively.
