    26 plants generate 2,833GWh of electricity in April 2024

    Port Harcourt — 26 grid-connected electricity generation plants across the country generated a total of 2,833 gigawatts hour, GWh, of electricity in the month of April 2024, a 8.15percent decline from 3,083GWh generated in March 2024, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC has said.
    According to NERC, these 26 grid-connected power plants recorded only 34percent availability factor in the month under review, even when they have an installed capacity of generating 12,199MW.
    Data released by NERC on the operational performance of power plants indicated that the largest power producers which include             plants generated 2,374GWh, which represents 83.7percent of the energy generated in April 2024.
    Afam IV -V, Sapele ST, Olorunsogo NIPP, Omotosho NIPP, Sapele GT NIPP, Ihovbor NIPP, Geregu NIPP, Omotosho, Olorunsogo, Ibom Power, River NIPP, Omoku, Trans Amadi, Paras, Taopex Energy, Mepp and Dadin Kowa generated a total of 480GWh being 16.9 percent of energy generated during the period.
    Egbin ST and Delta GS plants generated the highest power of 403GWh and 300GWh, while Kainji trailed behind with 247GWh in April 2024, while  Ihovbor NIPP and Omotosho NIPP generated 00GWh of electricity, from their installed capacity of 450MW and 500MW respectively.
    NERC further disclosed that 4,184 GWh was the average available capacity from these 26 power plants in April 2024.
