Port Harcourt — 27 grid-connected electricity generation plants across the country generated a total of 3,084.92GWh of electricity in the month of March 2024, a 17.98percent increase from 2,642.09GWh generated in February 2024, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC has said.
According to NERC, these 27 grid-connected power plants recorded only 35percent availability factor in the month under review, even when they have an installed capacity of generating 12,249MW.
Data released by NERC on the operational performance of power plants indicated that the largest power producers which include Egbin ST, Delta GS, Kanji, Shell’s Afam VI, Odukpani, Shiroro, Jebba, Okpai, Azura IPP and Geregu plants generated 2,518GWh, which represents 81.6percent of the energy generated in March 2024.
Afam IV -V, Sapele ST, Olorunsogo NIPP, Omotosho NIPP, Sapele GT NIPP, Ihovbor NIPP, Geregu NIPP, Omotosho, Olorunsogo, Ibom Power, River NIPP, Omoku, Trans Amadi, Paras, Taopex Energy, Mepp and Dadin Kowa generated a total of 566.02GWh being 18.3percent of energy generated during the period.
Egbin ST and Azura IPP plants generated the highest power of 320GWh and 305GWh, while Kainji trailed behind with 301GWh in March 2024, while Ihovbor NIPP and Omotosho NIPP generated 00GWh of electricity, from their installed capacity of 450MW and 500MW respectively.
NERC further disclosed that 4,338.88GWh was the average available capacity from these 27 power plants in March 2024.
