21 September 2011, Sweetcrude, Abuja- Vice President Namadi Sambo has asked the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) management to deliver its 10 thermal power plants on schedule to shore up national power generation.

He made the charge during the meeting of the board of the NDPHC in his office at the State House Abuja, noting that the contribution of the National Independent Power Projects (NIPPs) was paramount to the national grid.

Sambo further noted the contribution of the Olorunsongo and Sapele Power Plants to the improved power supply in the country as one unit in each of the power plants were currently operational.

He also directed that technical meetings must be convened immediately to resolve key issues like gas supply, transmission challenges and transaction advisers, amongst others.

The vice president directed that an agency should be created to follow-up on gas supply, stating that NNPC should provide an officer of the rank of a director for this purpose.

Other members of the agency would include an officer from the Nigeria Gas Company (NGC), the head of Gas for NDPHC, an officer from the Ministry of Power and Mr. Patrick Ikediashi (SA monitoring) in the office of the vice president.

On the issue of transformers that had arrived but yet to be distributed, Sambo demanded to be furnished with the number ordered and the distribution schedule.
