16 October 2011, Sweetcrude, Port Harcourt – Former acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Pastor Power Aginighan, has been retired.

Aginighan acted as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer before the constitution of a board where he later became the Executive Director, Finance and Administration.

His retirement came barely four weeks after the board was dissolved by President Goodluck Jonathan.
As Acting Managing Director, Aginighan contributed to the success of the peace process in the Niger Delta region. His role led substantially to the region’s militants laying down their arms and embracing peace.

The new Acting Managing Director/CEO, Mrs Osato Areyenka, in a letter on the retirement, said it took effect from August 6, 2009 when he assumed office as Executive Director Finance and Administration.

It further expressed the gratitude of management and staff to him for his “invaluable service over the years to the Commission and the people of the Niger Delta region”

Aginighan joined the public service in August 1982 as Accountant Grade II in the College of Education, Warri.

He rose to the rank of Principal Accountant before he was appointed Assistant Director, Finance and Accounts in the Oil Mineral Producing Areas Development Commission (OMPADEC) in April 1993.

Aginighan was absorbed into the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in January, 2001 as Assistant Director, Finance and Supply. He rose to Deputy Director in March, 2003 and later Director on March 1st, 2009.

He was appointed Acting Executive Director, Finance and Administration by President Olusegun Obasanjo on 28 May 2007.
