5 December 2011, Sweetcrude, Abuja – French giant, Total, has awarded a Nigerian company, Aveon Offshore, a $50 million contract for the fabrication of components on the LQ platform of its Ofon 2, offshore eastern Nigeria.
Aveon Offshore announced on Monday that as part of the deal, it will fabricate and load out more than 3000 tonnes of shallow water structures, including the OFQ jacket, piles, utility deck and helideck.
The oil and gas service provider said the works to be executed at its fabrication yard near Port Harcourt will generate more than 600,000 man hours by the time the structures are loaded out and sailed away for offshore installation in March 2013.
Ofon 2, with an estimated reserves of some 250 million barrels of oil equivalent, is due to come on stream in 2014, about five years behind schedule. It will produce about 70,000 barrels per day.
