14 March 2012, Sweetcrude, LAGOS – The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has described as false reports that 17,000 ghost workers have been discovered at the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).
A statement by Comrade Joe Ajaero, General Secretary of the union claimed the report was not false but was borne out of prejudice since the result .
Ajaero said in the statement that the report was pre-emptive since the result of the verification exercise on PHCN human resources (HR) was still on.
According to him, the consultant verifying all employees in the power sector is expected to conclude its work and make its submissions to relevant stakeholders on March 14, 2012.
Ajaero asserted that about 34,023 members of staff have been captured and cleared while about 4,000 are yet to be cleared due to reasons of typographical errors, wrong staff numbers among others.
For the casuals, he said about 4,106 have been captured and cleared while 7,000 exception (captured but not cleared) was outstanding.
He stated that while the Creative HR is expected to conclude its work on March 12, 2012, a committee comprising all the relevant stakeholders will meet on March 14, 2012 to review the submissions.
