30 May 2012, Sweetcrude, ADO-EKITI – The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has disclosed efforts by the Nigerian government to have it (labour) support the proposed hike in electricity tariff, adding that the plot will fail.
The Nigerian governmnet is set to raise the tariff on electricity as from Friday. June 1.
Deputy National President of the NLC, Comrade Promise Kanayo Adewusi, said rather than woo organised labour and civil society groups, the government should shelve the plan along with that of a total removal of fuel subsidy.
The NLC leader disclosed to the media in Iyin Ekiti in Irepodun-Ifelodun Local Government area of Ekiti State, that life has already been made unbearable for Nigerians through anti-people programmes and policies of the Federal Government and that increasing the electricity tariff would only go to inflate the people’s sufferings.
He said: “To us in the NLC, we view the proposed increment as a misplaced priority and attempt to further punish the citizens.”
