    Govt plans 330KVA power line between Kaduna, Kano

    31 May 2012, Sweetcrude, KANO – THE Nigerian government is to construct a 330 KVA line from Kaduna to Kano as part of measures to address the power shortage in Kano, Minister of Power, Prof Berth Nnaji, has said.

    Nnaji, made the plan known at a stakeholders’ meeting on the power sector in Kano.

    According to him, the measure is necessary to improve power supply and revitalise moribund industries in the state.

    “We must do everything possible to rejuvenate the economy of the country and this can only be done through adequate power supply.

    “The president has taken it as his number one priority to address the power challenges facing the country,” Nnaji said.

    He said the Federal Government also planned to construct a 215 megawatts plant in Kaduna in addition to constructing a high tension line from Kano to Katsina State.

    The Minister, who reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Government to improve power supply, assured the people of Kano State of improved power supply within the shortest possible time.

    Kano State Governor, Dr Rabi’u Kwankwaso, commended the Federal Government for the bold steps it had taken to reform the power sector.

    “I’m happy that the Federal Government is taking bold steps to overhaul the power sector,” the governor said.

    The stakeholders’ meeting was held at the Government House and was attended by members of the organised private sector, government functionaries, among others.
