14 June 2012, Sweetcrude, ABUJA – POWER generation in Nigeria has reached 3,422 megawattts (MW), according to Ministry of Power sources, who said it is the highest since January this year.
It reached that level on Tuesday.
Electricity generation in Nigeria hit its maximum at 4,162.2megawatts on January 6, 2012, before it dropped as a result of inadequate gas supply to the power plants and low water levels at the hydro stations.
Nigeria generates power from three hydro stations; two steam-powered plants and 14 gas-fired power stations.
The Trans-Amadi Power Plant in Rivers State recorded the least generation, with a maximum of 21.6mw and off-peak generation of 3.5megawatts.
At Kainji Hydro Power Station, output reached a maximum of 102mw while Jebba and Shiroro generated 240mw and 375mw respectively.
Also, power generation from Shell’s operated Afam VI Power Plant in Rivers State peaked at 581mw.
The Omotosho Power Station in Ondo State, operated by the National Integrated Power Project generated 112megawatts while the PHCN-owned plant, also at Omotosho peaked at 76.4mw.
Power generation from the NIPP-owned Olorunsogo Power Station in Ogun State was 118.6mw while the second plant owned by PHCN generated 98mw at peak and 75.6mw at off-peak.
The Omoku and Afam IV plants in Rivers State; Delta in Delta State; Geregu in Kogi State; AES in Lagos; Ibom Power and Sapele also generated power to the national grid.
