03 September 2012, Sweetcrude, Lagos – COMMUTERS in and around the Badagry –Seme axis have embraced the newly introduced Ferry Services by Waterbird Limited which has finally commenced operation, carrying passengers from Badagry to CMS within a time frame of one hour per journey.
Launching the ferry services the De Wheno Aholu Menu Toyi 1, Akran of Badagry over the weekend at the Old Slave Port said that the Ferry Service is innovative and will save the people of Badagry the stress of traveling to Lagos by road transportation
The Ferry with multiple engines in case of an emergency, has global positioning system, compass and Radar.
The Monarch , prayed for the safety of passengers using the ferry service, while also wishing the owners a prosperous business transactions in Badagry.
`Also speaking at the ceremony, Managing Director of Waterbird Ferry Services Limited Mr. Tony Osareren said that the service was introduced to Badagry to beat heavy road traffic, avoid congestion and stress.
The Ferry Services run four major routes including: Marina-Badagry, Mile 2-Badagry , Badagry –Mile 2 and Ebute -Ero –Badagry,” he explained.
The Waterbird Ferry Services which has been approved by Lagos State Waterways Authourity , LASWA , have boats with seating capacity for 26 passengers.
It was gathered that passengers going to CMS from Badagry Waterside boarding point will pay a sum of N1,500 , while those who are for Mile-2 will pay N1,000.
Osareren explained that Marine Division of Nigeria Police Force and Nigeria Customs Service , ( Marine Unit) are on board to protect passengers against Sea Pirates.
