18 September 2012, Sweetcrude, Lagos – Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL, Operator of the NNPC/Chevron Joint Venture has announced that the award Ceremony of the 2012 edition of its Annual National Arts Competition for students in secondary schools across Nigeria will take place on Thursday, September 27, 2012 with Exhibition and Award Ceremony at the Hotel Presidential in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The General Manager, Policy Government and Public Affairs (PGPA) of CNL, Deji Haastrup, explained that the 2012 edition of the Arts Competition with the theme, The Strength in Our Diversity, has been designed to stimulate young creative talents to bring their creativity to bear on the strength that is in the Diversity of Nigeria as a nation.
According to him, CNL has been sponsoring the competition since 2005 as part of its Corporate Responsibility programme. “Our support for the Art Competition is in line with Chevron’s vision of helping Nigeria lay a strong foundation of creative expressions among young Nigerians who, by virtue of their ingenuity, can stand tall amongst their peers in any part of the world,” he said.
Haastrup stated that the winners will get cash prizes in the form of scholarship for secondary education while the runners-up will receive one-off cash prizes. The Prize-giving Ceremony will be followed by an art exhibition featuring the various entries by the children in the past editions of the competition.
Guests expected to grace the occasion include Ministers of State for Education, Permanent Secretaries, Representatives of the National Assembly, Rivers State Government, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), NNPC/NAPIMS, the adjudication panel members, and the Press.
