05 February 2013, Sweetcrude, Gombe – The Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC, in partnership with the Capital Oil and Gas Industries Limited have sold 120,000 litres of kerosene to households in Gombe.
Mr Samuel Echea, the Business Manager of Kerosene-direct of the company disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, on Tuesday in Gombe.
He said that the scheme was part of efforts to cushion the effect of shortage of the product in Gombe state.
Echea said that the product was sold in different locations in Gombe metropolis at the official price of N50 per litre.
He said that the scheme was in collaboration with NNPC management to reduce the hardship faced by the masses.
According to him, the policy is also aimed at mitigating environmental problems associated with the felling of trees for fire wood.
He said that the product was sold at Kamara Primary School, Jeka da fari, Army Barracks, Low Cost Housing units and at the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure for government officials.
Echea said that there was a high demand for the product by the people of the state.
He said that the scheme had successfully checked the activities of middle men who were capitalising on the problem to sell the little available commodity in the state at high price.
“These products are loaded directly from NNPC depots and all the surveyors and regulatory bodies will test it to be sure it is good.
“These products are also taken to NNPC mega station and also tested by the regulatory agencies that regulate it to ensure that the quality is standard,” he said.
He said that the sale of the product was helping to reduce adulteration and disasters associated with adulterated products.
The manager said that the company was planning to bring more products which the government would sell to its citizens.
NAN reports that households were seen scrambling for the product at the premises of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.
