20 March 2013, Harare – The Zimbabwe government has reversed its contract with Sino-Hydro of China on the Kariba South Power Station expansion, according to Energy and Power Development Minister Elton Mangoma.
The contract review, following a cabinet order to that effect, now awaits the approval of the State Procurement Board, SPB.
SPB awarded Sino-Hydro the contract for the engineering, procurement and construction of the power station after the firm tendered a bid of US$368 million.
The government had then scrapped the excise duty from the importation of equipment and the figure was reduced to US$355 million.
