Low gas supply forces drop in power generation

Gas valve11 April 2013, Lagos – There are indications that the poor power supply situation across the country is due to the drop in the level of power generation.

The level of generation has dropped from a peak of 4,517 megawatts attained on December 21, 2012 to 3,443MW on Tuesday.

This indicates a drop of 1,074mw.
The drop in power generation is reportedly a result of low gas supply to thermal power plants.

Mrs. Pat Deworitshe, Assistant Director of Press at the Ministry of Power, confirmed the drop in the level of power generation.

“There is a general system collapse. I just spoke with the MD, Power Generation Station, Egbin, and he said there is a general system collapse. However, we are trying our best to fix it so that everybody can enjoy power supply,” she said.
