12 April 2013, Port Harcourt – Managing Director, Port Harcourt Refining Company, a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Mr. Lan Udoh, has called on Rivers State governor, Chibuike Amaechi, to step up the war against crude oil theft in the state.
Udoh made the call during a visit to the governor at Government House, Port Harcourt.
He said stepping up the fight would guarantee uninterrupted supply of petroleum products to the state.
According to him, crude oil theft constituted a major part of the challenges being faced by the Port Harcourt refinery.
Udoh said: “Our mission here is to seek support and cooperation from you (Amaechi), as we need strong support in securing the crude oil supply pipeline. Similar measures, had been taken, and successes recorded in the product evacuation line.”
Responding, Governor Amaechi advocated collaboration between NNPC and the state government to guard against crude oil theft in the state.
He maintained that the state government had acquired two surveillance helicopters to guard against crime in the state.
