26 April 2013, Awka – Member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr. Obinna Emenaka, has urged the Federal Government and the National Boundary Commission to intervene in the clashes between Enugu-Otu, Mkpumado, Eziagulu-Otu communities of Aguleri in Anambra State and Ibaji in Kogi State over location of oil wells.
According to him, the continued killing of people in the clashes was barbaric, and deserves the intervention of the federal government to bring it to an end.
Emenaka maintained that the people of Aguleri had lost many lives in the renewed attack by the Ibaji, while two men had been taken captive and many houses burnt.
”The crisis is condemnable, unacceptable and a breach of the constitution of the land, sections 33 and 35 that stipulate the safety of Nigerians in any part of the country,” he said.
He regretted that in spite of concerted efforts by the governors of Anambra and Kogi states, the crisis was still getting out of control and called on his colleagues in Kogi State House of Assembly and National Assembly to assist in finding a lasting solution to the problem.
Emenaka said the National Boundary Commission’s report on who actually owns the disputed land should be implemented to put the matter to rest and prevent loss of more souls in the hostilities.
To help resolve the crisis, the House of Representative on Tuesday in a motion by the lawmaker representing Anambra East and West in the House, Mr Chriscato Anaekwe, directed its special duties,disaster and emergency management committee to liaise with the National Boundary Commission on the crisis.
