Steel plant07 May 2013, Lagos – The Standards Organisation of Nigeria, SON, Monday, sealed off the premises of Hongxing Steel Company Limited at Amuwo Odofin Industrial Estate, Lagos, for producing low quality steel.

The company, which has been in operation since 2010, is accused of undermining Nigerian industrial standards.

SON’s Principle Standard Engineer, Mr. Samuel Ayuba, who led a team of SON’s inspectorate and enforcement officers to the company’s premises, said the action became necessary because the company was not producing its 10 millimetre reinforcement bars according to standards for Nigeria steel sector, which is NIS117: 2004.

“SON monitors every company that is manufacturing in this country. When we came one month ago, we conducted tensile and chemical test analysis on the spot and we found some irregularities,” he said.
