22 May 2013, Warri – Women and youths of Ugborodo community are gearing up for war with Chevron Nigeria Limited over alleged refusal by the oil firm to repair a damaged electricity transformer that had kept the community darkness since the last three months.
Ugborodo community in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State is host to Chevron’s tank farm.
The community is reportedly angry that even after the member representing the area in the Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Daniel Mayuku, had provided them an alternative transformer, Chevron allegedly refused their engineers installing the new transformer.
Mayuku said of the situation in the community: “The host community has been without light for the past three months due to the break down of the transformer.”
