25 May 2013, Lagos –The count of rigs drilling in the US for oil and gas dropped by seven this week to 1762, the latest report from Houston service provider Baker Hughes said.
The number exploring for oil fell six to 1402, with gas rigs flat at 354.
A year ago, the country had 1983 total rigs. Oil units are up by 19 from last year but gas rigs have fallen by 240.
Alaska was among the states to shed rigs, dropping by three to total six.
Colorado dropped five to 57, North Dakota dropped by four to 174 and Oklahoma one to 186.
Texas was among the states to gain rigs, adding three to its count to total 840.
Also gaining over the week were Utah, which saw its count increase by five to 34 and Louisiana, which added one for 107.
In Canada, the count added eight to total 131.
