05 June 2013, Lagos – Investors in the power plants located in the Niger Delta region will have to key into the security and community development programmes of the region in order to guarantee the safety of the power plants. Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State stated this yesterday at the kick off of the road show organised by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited in collaboration with Bureau for Public Enterprises and other stakeholders. The road show was embarked upon to begin the much awaited privatisation of the 10 power plants located in different parts of the country.
Uduaghan said most of the plants are located in the Niger Delta region, which is why the holding company is called Niger Delta Power Holding Company.
He said: “Until a few years back, when you talked of Niger Delta, two issues came to mind; oil and insecurity. Niger Delta is now safer. Your safety in these areas is guaranteed. But as you buy these plants, ensure that you get in touch with the governors of these states as early as possible. This is because there is a security master plan that they will set down for you to work with.”
