05 June 2013, Illorin – The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, has urged the Federal Goverment to impose stiffer sanctions against oil pipeline vandalism as a measure to arrest the menace.
Chairman, IPMAN, Western Zone, Mr. Olumide Ogunmade, made the call as he recommended that anyone found guilty of the offence should be executed or jailed for life.
Ogunmade spoke through IPMAN deputy chairman for the zone, Mr. Ogbonneno Tosin Adekoya, at the fidau prayers for the late IPMAN Chairman for Ilorin depot, Alhaji Jamiu Bolaji Agboolade.
According to him, Federal Government’s inability to take stiffer action against the activities of the vandals was rather encouraging the criminals.
“The Federal Government is paying lip service to the problems of pipeline vandalism,” he said, adding that the fact that arrested vandals are released few days after being arrested have made them continue with their activities.
The IPMAN western zone is made up of Ibadan, Mosimi, Ore, Satellite and Ilorin depots.
