17 August 2013, Lagos – Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL, operator of the NNPC/Chevron Joint Venture, has described as false reports of spill in its Funiwa field located in the company’s eastern operational areas, in Bayelsa State of Nigeria.
A statement by Deji Haastrup, General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, said: “Any report of spill in our CNL Funiwa field is false in its entirety and we advise all enquiries about CNL operations to be directed to us instead of third parties.”
Haastrup said the clarification had become necessary in view of reports by some news media alleging that there has been a spill in the Funiwa field.
He emphasized that CNL conducts its operations to ensure the safety of the people and the environment at all times. “CNL reiterates its commitment to effective environmental management in line with one of its core values of protecting people and the environment in all its operations,” Haastrup said.
