ERERA Power lines30 August 2013, Nairobi – Kenya’s Bungoma governor Kenneth Lusaka has signed a deal with a Chinese company set up a hydroelectric plant in the county.

Speaking to the Star in his office yesterday, Lusaka said he struck a deal with Hydro China Xibei engineering to construct a hydroelectric power plant at the Nabuyole Falls in Webuye.

He said the deal will be funded by a grant from the Chinese government. Lusaka, who was among the governors accompanying President Uhuru in his recent trip to China, said the project will ease the county government’s expenditure on paying electricity.

“The project will help in lighting up our major towns,” he said. Lusaka said setting up the project is the largest firm in China and can manage the task.

He said their trip to China was in the interest of Kenyans. “Even those condemning the President and some of us for partnering with China would not spare that opportunity if they got it,” Lusaka said. He asked leaders to stop criticising the national government for the sake of popularity.
