17 September 2013, Dar es Salaam – In a move to support government efforts to enable its citizens in remote areas access power, the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has conducted training for 23 technicians from Misungwi District Council.
Closing the four-day training, Misungwi District executive director, Mr Nathan Mshana, said owing to the fact that electricity was not available in the district’s remote areas, REA had facilitated the training on connecting solar power for the 23 electrical technicians.
“These 23 technicians will be trainers of trainees, TOT, in remote parts in this district in effort to ensure more people access solar power,” said Mr Mshana.
He said the training was part of imparting entrepreneurship skills to the technicians as it would help them get loans from banks which would sustain their businesses.
Mshana noted that the training would empower citizens how to connect and use solar power, which is renewable energy that would do away with the use of kerosene.
REA consultant, Eng. Emmanuel Michael, said the training was meant to impart entrepreneurial skills to the participants which would help them in future. He added that REA was collaborating with different banks in the country to facilitate people to access loans in the 86 project villages.
