Chevron rig fire12 February 2014, News Wires – A gas pipeline in Egypt’s Sinai province has been blown up in the latest of a string of attacks on the transport line, according to reports.

Security officials told Agence France Presse they suspected militants were behind the attack on the pipeline south of al Arish, which has now been bombed four times since the start of 2014.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, which did not result in any reported injuries.

The pipeline is operated by Egypt Natural Gas Company (Gasco), a wing of state player Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC).

It transports natural gas to cement factories south of the coastal city of al Arish, according to Daily News Egypt.

The pipeline has now come under attack numerous times since Egypt’s uprising in 2011, with the attacks increasing in frequency since Islamist president Mohammed Morsi’s ouster last summer.

An al Qaeda-inspired group, Ansar Beit al Maqdis or Partisans of Jerusalem, claimed responsibility for the last attack on the pipeline on 27 January.
