11 April 2014, Lagos – Mr Pekun Adeyanju, Assistant General Manager, Public Affairs, in Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company on Thursday appealed to residents in Lagos to be patient over current epileptic power supply.
Adeyanju told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that the company was aware of the situation, adding that there would soon be improved power supply.
The company was reacting to protests by residents of four communities in Lagos who stormed the company’s district offices to register their grievances.
The communities are Ikotun ,Mafolukun, Ojota and Agbede in Ikorodu.
The residents told NAN that the outage was negatively affecting their businesses and living conditions.
A Spokesman for Mafolukun residents, Mr Abiodun Foworese, said the residents had suffered greatly under the new private investor than when the government was managing the sector.
According to Foworese, the owners of IKEDC should pay compensation to the residents who had suffered unjustly in the last three months.
“In the past few months, electricity supply has worsened in virtually in all parts of the country.
“The development has impacted negatively on socio-economic activities of the people.
“We came here to demonstrate the deep pain in our hearts that the power supply in our area has gone from bad to worse,” Foworese said.
Adeyanju, however, urged consumers to bear with the company. “We (consumers) should not expect a miracle to happen overnight.
“I don’t think the change we are expecting in the power sector will be automatic. I think it is too early to start condemning IKEDC, we should give the company more time to execute its plans and projects.
“I am optimistic that this move will be beneficial to us all,” Adeyanju said.
