    BP court chances dashed

JusticeBP has copped another blow in the ongoing court battle over the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill, with a US appeals court refusing to revisit a decision made earlier this year.

The 5 US Circuit Court of Appeals made a decision in March to authorise payments to businesses which lost money from the spill, and said an injunction on payments should be lifted.

BP asked the 5 Circuit to rehear the case, but the court voted to let to the March ruling stand.

The company has been trying to limit payments it has to make to businesses arguing the decision would allow businesses to recover “fictitious losses”.

The Macondo well disaster killed 11 people and caused the largest US offshore oil spill.
