02 July 2015, Oleh, Delta State – The people of Irri in, Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State, yesterday, decried their alleged neglect by the Nigerian Agip Oil Company, NAOC. They called on the oil company to meet their demand or be prepared to vacate their land.
Addressing newsmen on their issues with NAOC, chairman of Irri Community Development Committee, Mr. Goddey Igorigo, listed the grievances of the community to include the alleged unwillingness of the company to employ their indigenes and non-implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, it entered into with them.
He said: “There was an MOU we entered into with the company that every year, there should be a particular project they will execute for us. In 2013, they were supposed to construct 1.5km of road in the community; in 2014, another 1.5 km road and in this year 2015, upgrading of Irri electricity. As we speak, even the one of 2013 has not been completed let alone those of 2014 and 2015.”
