12 September 2015, Yola, – The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) in charge of Adamawa, Borno, Taraba and Yobe states, has announced the restoration of electricity supply to Maiduguri  after several months of blackout.

Energy Crisis Threatens the Western Power GridsThe News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that  Maiduguri had been without electricity for six months due to destruction of electricity facilities by insurgents.

A press statement signed on Saturday  by Mr Kingsley Nkemneme, the Senior Corporate Communication Officer of the company on behalf of the Managing Director, Mr Umara Mustapha, said electricity was restored to Maiduguri and environs.

According to the statement, the new management of the company was committed to restoring electricity to affected towns in the North East and had so far done that in Maiduguri, Gombi and Mubi among others.

It said the new management also recorded improvement in electricity supply to the zone in spite of the security challenges.

“YEDC under the current leadership has started changing the face of the organisation as the company supplies power to its customers for between 18 to 20 hours daily.

” The problem of low voltage in  Wukari and other parts of Taraba state has also been addressed.” the statement said.

It urged customers in the zone to reciprocate the improvement in power supply by promptly settling their bills to sustain the tempo.
