24 April 2016, Abuja — Fuel queues nationwide are yet to completely disappear as motorists go through difficult times paying inflated prices to buy the product. Roadside hawkers have cashed in on the scarcity to adulterate fuel and sell to unsuspecting motorists. The bad petrol sold by these marketers has led to mounting complaints by motorists’ of their vehicles and generators having faults.
But the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has warned all operators of petroleum products depots, filling stations and other stakeholders to desist from unwholesome activities of adulteration, hoarding, diversion and pump manipulation.
DPR director, Mordecai Ladan, who said this in a statement, also charged marketers against these unwholesome acts to avoid untoward hardship to motorists and the general public. He said every effort was being made to ensure that petroleum products supply and distribution situation in the country was normalised.
Ladan said marketers must ensure that petroleum products get across to Nigerians timely and at the regulated prices.
“The security agencies in collaboration with the DPR will arrest and prosecute any erring marketer involved in sabotaging government commitment at making petroleum products readily available to Nigerians,” he said.
