26 April 2016, Lagos — The Eko Electricity Distribution Company has advocated the need for the federal government to consider 21-year imprisonment for electricity vandals in the country in order to stem the tide of the practice.
Assistant General Manager of the company, Mr. Godwin Idemudia, who disclosed this in a chat with our correspondent yesterday, said vandalisation of electricity cables constitutes a severe loss to electricity consumers and companies in the country.
He said: “Giving cable vandals minimal sentence like two to three years has not helped to minimize the menace. It is this premise that I think giving the vandals stiffer sanctions like jailing them for 21 years would go a long way in deterring them from vandalism.”
