27 June 2016, Abuja – A House of Representatives panel has threatened to issue warrants of arrest against some companies that failed to appear before it to defend themselves on issues regarding Oil Prospecting Licences (OPLs) and Oil Mining Licences (OMLs).
The panel, chaired by Rep Gideon Gwani (PDP, Kaduna), was set up by the House specifically to probe the issue of OPLs and OMLs between 2005 and 2007.
The ad-hoc committee had held two sessions last month, but some of the companies invited failed to appear during such sessions.
“The DPR gave us an assurance that the companies that did not attend the hearing last month would appear today (Friday). Next time we will invoke the powers granted us by the constitution and compel them to appear.
“It would not be nice when people are brought before us in handcuffs, but these firms are starting to think we are not serious,” he said.
