28 July 2016, Kano – Kano Electricity Distribution Plc (KEDCO) has commenced the installation of pre-paid meters at the premises of Jigawa state Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in Dutse, the state capital, and its environs.

Prepaid-meters-360x225 This followed an agreement reached on Wednesday during a meeting between Jigawa state government and KEDCO’s management at the office of the Deputy Governor, Barrister Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia.

Hadejia, who explained that the meter installation was necessary for accurate energy accounting, stated that the state government would continue to support the company towards improving power supply.

On the state’s debts owed KEDCO, the Deputy Governor said most of the debts had accumulated over the years, but he instructed the constituted committee comprising KEDCO and state government officials to speed up the reconciliation of the outstanding debts before payment would be made.

According to him, “We must not allow issues of debts undermine our long standing relationship. All we need is to cross-check in order to ascertain the actual amount in debt.”

Earlier, the Chief Operating Officer of KEDCO, Mr Rahul Singh, commended the state government for convening the meeting, saying the company had a mandate to collect all its debts.
