sonatrach05 September 2016, Algiers — Sonatrach has exported 71.5 million tons of oil equivalent (TOE) in the first eight months of 2016, up by 8% compared with the same period last year, the group announced Saturday in a communiqué.

“As regards exports, all products included, Sonatrach exported 71.5 million TOE until august 2016 against 65.4 million in the same period of 2015, up by 8%,” the same source said.

But for crude oil, the group’s exports declined by 8% at the end of 2016 compared to the same period in 2015.

According to Sonatrach, this decrease is due to the processing of significant quantities of crude in refineries in northern regions.

“The performance of refineries enables us achieve our refined products export target, i.e. 123% in the first eight months of 2016, and hit a 2% growth compared to the same period in 2015.

“In the first six months of this year, our gas exports widened by nearly 3 billion m3 in the Italian market.”

In terms of import costs of fuel, the decrease in imported quantities enabled Sonatrach save up USD 710 million (-43%) during the first eight months of this year compared with achievements at the end of 2015, Sonatrach added.
