…They’re not our members’ says PENGASSAN

Nestoil workersMkpoikana Udoma 15 September 2016, Sweetcrude, Port Harcourt – The Rivers State Police Command has assured that it was doing everything possible to ensure that the 14 workers of Nestoil Plc abducted in the state two weeks ago, were released unhurt.

Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, in an exclusive interview with our correspondent in Port Harcourt, said the Command had made significant progress toward rescuing the abducted oil workers.
Omoni reiterated that the victims would be released in the next few days.
He further explained that the police was carrying out necessary measures and working in line with its professional conduct toward ending criminality in the state.
“We are doing our best, we are working tirelessly and assiduously to ensure that the hostages are released. We are closing in on them but we do not want to follow them fire-for-fire because we do not want to harm the victims. So, we are carefully and tactically closing up on them.
“In the next couple of days, I assure you they will be released unconditionally,” Omoni said.
Meanwhile, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, has said that the 14 abducted Nestoil workers were not its members.
Port Harcourt Zonal Chairman of PENGASSAN, Mr. Azubuike M. Azubuike, told our correspondent that the management of Nestoil Plc refused the workers from unionising, and the union could not do more or less since the abducted workers were not its members.
Azubuike, however, called on the kidnappers to release the oil workers unconditionally, adding that kidnapping was not the best option to the economic crunch bedevilling the country.
